Meet our Directors...
Bettye Cohns

Bettye serves as the Executive Director of RELC. She is responsible for overseeing the delivery of the RELC educational program.
Bettye brings to RELC a lifetime of work with preschoolers. Over the years she has served in many roles at the widely recognized and NAEYC-accredited Child Care Center of Evanston: teacher, Family Education Manager, Education Director, and Assistant Director. She has also been a teacher at the Oakton Community College Demonstration Center and supervisor of academic students enrolled in Early Childhood Education at Oakton Community College.
Along the way Bettye has received considerable recognition for the excellence of her work: the OCC Distinguished Alumni Award (1997), the Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Award (2000), the Kendall College Volunteer Excellence Award (2001), and membership in the Leadership Evanston training program (2004). Bettye began her work as Program Director at RELC July 2, 2012.
Darcy Carter

Darcy serves as the Administrative Director of RELC. Darcy has a bachelor’s of social work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a masters in early childhood from University of Illinois at Chicago. She brings more than 20 years of experience as a teacher and administrator in early childhood education.
